HOW Design’s #TenThingsNotToSayToADesigner

HOW Design has a hashtag that has me laughing each time it pops up on my Twitter feed: #TenThingsNotToSayToADesigner.

It’s not really 10 things, but a list of phrases designers often hear that can drive us a little crazy and give us a good laugh. People from across the web have joined in and tweeted. Here are some of my favorites:

@HannahBHjorth “I’ve sent you an image … in a Word doc”

@DesignSellout “My {wife, BFF, 3rd cousin} took art classes at the local community college, and she thinks …”

@ type1design “The colors look different on my phone.”

@ type1design “Why is it so expensive? What’s so hard about designing a logo?”

@_Sarah_Kate_ “I took a shot at designing it myself in Word.”

@HollandAlways “PowerPoint. Windows. Word. Template. Bigger. No budget. Newsletter. ASAP. Resize. Changed my mind.”

@SoyAfroLatina “Just make it look pretty, it shouldn’t take that long.”

@SamBallinger04 “Can you send me the working file? I want to make a couple of changes.”

@HOWbrand “Let’s go with Papyrus.”

@kemilligan “I saw this brochure cover that I like … can we just do it like that?”

As I sit here each day working for a variety of clients, it makes me feel good to know that I’m not in this alone. We all hear the same things day after day, we all continue to design what our clients want, and at the end of the day our clients are happy with the work we do!

For any of my clients who may be reading this … you read correctly. Word is not for images or designing publication layouts or logos. Just call or email me and I’ll be more than happy to help you with your next project!
